Tarbiyati Nisaab
Tarbiyati Nisaab is a thoughtfully compiled educational curriculum developed by the Darussalam Research Center and published by Darussalam. This three-part series is designed to offer a structured, semester-wise syllabus for the moral, spiritual, and intellectual upbringing of children and youth, based strictly on the authentic teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah.
Purpose and Background
In the modern educational landscape, while there are many institutions that offer Qur’anic recitation and memorization, the aspect of practical tarbiyah (Islamic upbringing) is often neglected. Children may learn to recite the Qur’an fluently, yet lack clarity in matters of faith, character, manners, and prophetic lifestyle.
Understanding this gap, Darussalam initiated the development of Tarbiyati Nisaab, not as a mere textbook but as a complete Islamic training framework. This curriculum addresses the urgent need for an age-appropriate, practical, and authentic guide to raise children who are not only educated but also deeply rooted in Islamic values and conduct.
Structure and Organization
The Tarbiyati Nisaab is divided into three volumes, each of which is designed to be taught over an 8-week semester, covering 24 weeks in total. This format allows educational institutions and home educators to implement the content in an organized and manageable manner.
Each volume contains:
-
Core Islamic beliefs (Aqeedah)
-
Worship and basic Islamic rulings (Ibaadah)
-
Selected authentic Hadiths with explanations
-
Essential daily Duas
-
Seerah (Life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH))
-
Islamic etiquette and manners (Adab)
-
Basic Islamic knowledge and general guidance
-
Language and expression through poetry and short speeches
The content is tailored to be easily understood by children while still rooted in sound Islamic scholarship. The approach is interactive, structured, and purpose-driven, aiming to not only inform but transform.
Target Audience and Use Cases
This curriculum is ideally suited for:
-
Islamic schools and academies
-
Madrasahs and Qur’an institutes
-
Homeschooling families
-
Weekend Islamic programs
-
Parents seeking to guide their children at home
The Tarbiyati Nisaab is not bound by one educational setting. It is equally effective in structured classroom environments as it is in family settings where parents wish to raise children with clarity in belief and excellence in character.
Key Strengths
-
Authenticity:
Every lesson, hadith, and practice included in the curriculum is sourced from authentic references, ensuring doctrinal correctness. -
Developmental Relevance:
The curriculum respects the child’s cognitive and emotional development, offering content that aligns with their level of understanding. -
Scholarly Rigor:
Developed by experienced scholars and educators who understand both classical Islamic sciences and modern educational needs. -
Focus on Tarbiyah, not just information:
The primary aim is character building, not just information delivery, shaping individuals who are beneficial for society and successful in the Hereafter.
Why This Curriculum Matters Today
In an age of digital distraction and social confusion, the need for a clear, reliable, and effective Islamic upbringing is greater than ever. Children today are exposed to various influences, many of which contradict Islamic morals and principles. Tarbiyati Nisaab serves as a shield and a guide, equipping children with sound beliefs, Islamic understanding, and strong moral grounding, as exemplified by the Prophet (PBUH) in raising his own family and companions.
This curriculum is a call to action for parents, educators, and institutions: Don't just educate, build character. Don't just inform; train hearts. Let your children grow with purpose, discipline, and faith.
