Overview:

Sunan Ibn Majah is the last book of the Sahih Sitta. Among the Sahih Sitta, the scholars of Hadith unanimously agree on the authenticity of all Hadiths in Bukhari and Muslim, but the remaining four books contain both authentic (sahih) and weak (da‘if) Hadiths alongside each other.  Sunan Ibn Majah began to be counted among the Sittah (six books) towards the end of the fifth century Hijri. After that, in every era, this book continued to establish its significance. In terms of authenticity and strength, books like Sahih Ibn Hibban, Sunan Dar Qutni, and several other collections were superior to Sunan Ibn Majah, but those books did not gain the widespread acceptance and recognition that Sunan Ibn Majah achieved. The style of Sunan Ibn Majah is exceptionally splendid, and the alignment of the Hadiths with the chapter headings (tarajim al-abwab) is very clear. Despite being concise, the book is comprehensive in matters of rulings and issues. Imam Ibn Majah included 482 authentic Hadiths in his Sunan that are not found in the other five books of the Sittah. Due to this very importance of Sunan Ibn Majah, Maulana Ataullah Sajid took up the task of translating it into Urdu for the benefit of the masses. Along with an excellent translation, Maulana has also mentioned the benefits derived from each Hadith alongside it. The revision, corrections, and additions by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf have further enhanced the book’s utility. For authentication and research (takhrij wa tahqiq), the services of Hafiz Zubair Ali Zai were utilized, and he has provided his ruling on each Hadith based on his research, classifying them as authentic (sahih), good (hasan), or weak (da‘if).
